Installation planning
Pico can be installed in different ways. Here you will find the most common variants described with their specific requirements.
General installation
Each Pico has DC fault detection in accordance with IEC62955.Â
Pico charging stations with BY 2024 or from serial number 7002702 have an integrated compliant RCD type A according to IEC60947-2.
- from 2024 or serial number 7002702, a serial RCD type A is no longer required
- before 2024 or serial number 7002702, a serial RCD type A is required before each charging station for NIN conformity. The Pico charging stations can easily handle short-circuit currents of 3kA themselves. If several charging stations are connected to one outgoing circuit, a circuit breaker must be used on the outgoing circuit. The load protection device must be designed for the short-circuit capability of the outgoing circuit. At least 6kA variants are recommended in any case, and it must be ensured for each installation that the tripping current can actually flow due to the installation. If this is not the case, serial load contactors can be used in series with each Pico charging station.
The internal load protection device of the Pico charging station complies with the requirements of IEC 61851-1.
Suitable for:
Ribbon cable installations
Busbar installations
Run-off installations
Stand-alone installations
Pico charging station from BY 2024 and Serial 7002702
All Pico charging stations from serial number 7002702 have an internal type A RCD in accordance with IEC 60947-2 in combination with DC fault protection detection in accordance with IEC62955
Pico Installation on flat ribbon cables or busbar systems
Short-circuit-proof installation is required:
Connection cable between ribbon cable and ev-charger must comply with the following points:
Minimum 10mm2
Shorter then 3m length
Advanced protection against mechanical damage: Protect cable with aluminium pipe.
Do not lead the connecting cable over flammable areas.
The shortcut current must be high enough to make the installed 63A circuit breaker trip. (Test charger base at the end of the installation)
Pico internal looped installation or with Pico stand Basic (212070-PL)
Pico Installation with Pico stand with maintenance door (232070-PL)
Pico charging station before BY 2024 and Serial 7002702
Pico charging stations before BJ2024 or serial number 7002702 have an integrated DC fault detection according to IEC62955.
Pico charging stations before BJ2024 or serial number 7002702 have a functional but not 100% compliant residual current detection for alternating currents type A (30mA)
Installation ribbon cable
RCD Type-A 40A without load circuit breaker in serial to each Pico EV-Charger.
Load circuit breaker at the e-mobility outgoing feeder with short-circuit-proof routing is sufficient for selectivity. (Extended documentation)
Short-curcuit-proof routing:
Connection cable between ribbon cable and ev-charger must comply with the following points:
Minimum 10mm2
Shorter then 3m length
Advanced protection against mechanical damage: Protect cable with aluminium pipe.
Do not lead the connecting cable over flammable areas.
The shortcut current must be high enough to make the installed 63A circuit breaker trip. (Test installation)
